Carrier & Capacity Specialist

A Carrier & Capacity Management Specialist is responsible for overseeing transportation carriers and ensuring there is sufficient capacity to meet Wicker Park Logistics network needs. This role manages and provides support activities to enable the profitable growth of Wicker Park Logistics’ truckload (TL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) business which will result in:

  • Enhanced TL and LTL capacity, service performance and economics
  • Improved carrier relationships that position Wicker Park Logistics as a “preferred customer” to TL and LTL carriers
  • Identify, develop and assist in the execution of value-added transportation services offerings

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist brokerage operations in the procurement of additional capacity by:
    • Coordinating needs with the operations group and sales teams
    • Networking with local and regional carriers that can provide the needed capacity
  • Assist the business development team in developing comprehensive bid responses by:
    • Coordinating bid support needs with WPLL executive leadership and solution design team
    • Working directly with the business development teams to provide the required customer response including RFI response development, RFP/RFQ preparation, sales presentations, etc.
  • Assist and coordinate resolution of carrier billing disputes with the brokerage operations and accounts payables teams
  • Develop new carrier capacity through research and participation in industry events
  • Coordinate proper onboarding of new capacity with the Vendor Compliance department
  • Manage and report carrier performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve margins
  • Monthly reporting by carrier, mode, lane to identify areas of improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve carrier performance
  • Create and maintain carrier scorecards and conduct periodic business reviews with strategic partners

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Prior experience in leveraging capacity management tools and software (Highway, DAT, etc.)
  • Prior experience in freight brokerage, logistics or transportation-related experience preferred.
  • Experience operating and managing freight in all modes of transportation, including international.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Requires confidence and independent decision-making skills to problem-solve, juggle competing priorities, and provide accurate and responsive customer service.
  • Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of market trends, carrier networks, and freight pricing

Experience:

  • Brokerage or Transportation related: 2 years (Required)

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field (Preferred)
