Freight Brokerage Operations Specialist

A Freight Brokerage Operations Specialist plays a key role in managing and coordinating freight movement between shippers and carriers. This role involves negotiating rates, tracking shipments, ensuring timely deliveries, and building strong relationships with clients and transportation providers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has strong communication skills, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Load Coordination & Management:
    • Support customer quote requests leveraging industry knowledge to provide competitive pricing
    • Match shippers with suitable carriers based on load requirements and availability
    • Negotiate freight rates with carriers to maximize profitability
    • Schedule and dispatch shipments while ensuring compliance with customer needs
  • Carrier & Customer Relations: 
    • Develop and maintain relationships with carriers to ensure reliable capacity
    • Communicate with shippers and receivers to coordinate pickup and delivery
    • Address and resolve any operational issues, including delays, damages, or rate discrepancies
    • Ensure carrier performance and event compliance
  • Tracking & Monitoring:
    • Track shipments and provide real-time updates to customers and TMS updates
    • Proactively identify potential delays and work to resolve issues efficiently and proactively
    • Make sure all shipments meet safety and regulatory standards
  • Administrative & Compliance Tasks:
    • Maintain accurate documentation, including rate confirmations, bills of lading, and carrier contracts
    • Identify accessorial charge patterns and future mitigation.
    • Ensure compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations
    • Support company departments to process invoices, payments, and resolve billing discrepancies

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Prior experience in freight brokerage, logistics or transportation-related experience preferred.
  • Experience operating and managing freight in all modes of transportation, including international.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Requires confidence and independent decision-making skills to problem-solve, juggle competing priorities, and provide accurate and responsive customer service.
  • Ability to quickly assess client situations and escalate to management when needed.
  • Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of market trends, carrier networks, and freight pricing

Experience:

  • Brokerage or Transportation related: 2 years (Required)

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field (Preferred)
