A Logistics Key Account Manager (KAM) is responsible for managing and developing relationships with key clients. This role focuses on ensuring customer satisfaction, optimizing logistics operations, and driving business growth. The Account Manager is the freight farmer and is responsible for the growth and performance of an existing portfolio of accounts. As an Account Manager, you are responsible for the daily sell strategy and decision making across your specified customer accounts. This role works closely on a daily basis to collaborate with the brokerage operations team to drive account strategy, capitalize on growth opportunities and ensure the offerings and capabilities of Wicker Park Logistics’ services are being maximized.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Client Relationship Management – Maintain and strengthen relationships with key clients, acting as the main point of contact
- Business Development – Identify opportunities to expand services, increase revenue, and enhance client satisfaction
- Brokerage Operations Optimization – Collaborate with internal teams to improve supply chain efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service levels
- Contract Negotiation – Negotiate pricing, terms and service agreement to ensure long-term partnerships
- Performance Monitoring – Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure client expectations are met
- Problem-Solving – Address operational issues, resolve disputes, and improve logistics processes
- Market Analysis – Stay updated on industry trends, competitor strategies, and new technologies
- Business Development Support – Work with internal stakeholders to manage each customer’s RFP
- Business Development Liaison – Engage the business development account owner on larger, more complex customer growth opportunities
Qualifications & Skills:
- Prior experience in leveraging capacity management tools and software (Highway, DAT, etc.)
- Prior experience in freight brokerage, logistics or transportation-related experience preferred.
- Understanding of supply chain management and logistics processes
- Customer-focused mindset and excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Proven ability to drive account growth, both revenue and profitability
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Proficiency in logistics software and CRM tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Requires confidence and independent decision-making skills to problem-solve, juggle competing priorities, and provide accurate and responsive customer service.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of market trends, carrier networks, and freight pricing
